About Us
David K. Arndt, CPA
David has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1984 and brings nearly four decades of broad experience in tax compliance and tax planning. He began his career in Minneapolis, MN, where he became the manager of a regional certified public accounting firm. He moved to Forest City, IA in 1992 and acquired a CPA firm in 1994, which he incorporated in 1996. As managing shareholder of that firm, he built a successful company with positive experience for clients. He believes that opportunity comes from the work you put forth, and he continually strives to provide high-quality accounting and income tax services to our clients. David volunteers his services to several local organizations and causes. He is the treasurer of Forest City Education Foundation, the local movie theatre, and he is a board member of the Forest City Economic Development. He was a past president of Rotary International Club in Forest City. In 2016, he received the John K. and Louise V. Hanson Lifetime Achievement Award for his years of service to the community. In 2023, he was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Osage Community School District.
Blake Schaper, CPA, MST
A distinguished military graduate from the University of North Georgia, Blake began his career as a Second Lieutenant in the Georgia Army National Guard. In parallel with intensive flight school training for helicopters and airplanes, Blake pursued his Master of Science in Taxation from the University of Cincinnati. As an Investment Advisor Representative, Insurance Agent, and tax expert, Blake served clients nationwide, providing innovative financial solutions in an ever-changing world. With a deep interest in taxation as it pertains to real estate, Blake established Mountain Realty Partners (MRP), a firm specializing in commercial development and real estate management. As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Trust and Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA), Blake harmonizes real estate investment opportunities with his extensive knowledge of tax planning and financial analysis. After serving as the Chief Financial Officer of Bison Advisors and Armis Strategies, he founded BrookHaven Tax & Accounting Professionals, LLC, and also holds the role of Director of Planning at Mountain Crypto Advisers (MCA), a company that focuses on planning within the cryptocurrency space. In his military career, Blake served as a Blackhawk pilot in an Assault Helicopter Battalion and a General Support Aviation Battalion, Blake has been honored with the Meritorious Service Medal, the US Army Parachutists Badge, and the Republic of Georgia’s Mountain Warfare School badge. Based in Northeast Georgia, Blake cherishes life with his wife Loren, their two sons Nate and Noah, and their cat, Cheerio.
Samantha Dugan, CPA
Sam graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in ethics and obtained her CPA license in 2009. She joined D.K Arndt, P.C. in 2021 and became a minority shareholder in 2023. She brought experience in bookkeeping, payroll services, tax preparation, and tax planning for a variety of clients. She truly enjoys developing relationships with clients and being able to help them focus their efforts on what they do best. Over the years, Sam has been involved in several organizations in the community and is currently a member/officer of the Winnebago County Fair Board. Sam resides on a small farm near Thompson. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially her son and bonus-daughter, working with her animals and reading.
Gustave R. Byom, CPA
Gus joined D.K. Arndt P.C. in 1999 and passed his CPA exam in February 2000. Gus works with a number of individual and corporate clients. In January 2004, he became a minority shareholder in the company. Gus has served on several boards of non-profit organizations and donates his time to the community of Garner. Gus lives in Garner with his wife, Heather. With 5 children between them and a bonus daughter, they keep busy with events, games and activities. In their spare time, Gus and Heather enjoy outdoor activities together.
Betty L. Nash, CPA
Betty has been a member of the DK Arndt team since October 2010. She is a CPA and shareholder in the firm. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the American Institute of Business, Des Moines but also holds an Associate Degree in Computer Programming. Betty brings a vast amount of experience in working with farmers, small businesses, employer payroll taxes, and individual tax returns. She is an active member of the Belmond community, a financial advisor on the New Lyric Theatre Board, and lector at St. Francis Xavier Parish. She loves to spend time with her family. Some of her hobbies include kayaking, biking, and reading. She and her husband, Todd, have two grown sons and are adjusting to life as empty nesters!
Douglas G. Bruhns, CPA
Doug joined D.K. Arndt, P.C. in November 2006. Prior to becoming a staff member with the company, Doug owned and operated Midwest Tax and Accounting in Lake Mills. Doug also possesses many years of accounting experience in private industry. Doug has two grown sons and lives in Lake Mills with his wife Shannon.
Seth Weiland, CPA
Seth started with D.K. Arndt, P.C. in May 2021 as an intern and joined the team full time in June 2023. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in May 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He currently resides in Ventura. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, boating, and watching dirt track racing.
Dave Iverson, CPA
Dave has been a CPA since 1982 and has been involved with financial services since 1989. Dave specializes primarily in business tax consulting. Dave lives in Greene with his wife, Molly. He enjoys golfing, biking and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Chad Anderson
Chad joined D.K. Arndt, P.C. in October 2009 after working for the City of Forest City. Chad enjoys sports and attending his children’s sporting events. Chad lives in Forest City with his wife, Stacy. They have 3 children: Tyler, Hannah and Emma.
Mason Wirtz
Mason graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in May, 2022. Although he officially joined D.K. Arndt P.C. right after he graduated from college, he was a student intern in the Garner office prior. Mason lives in Wesley and enjoys running, biking, ultimate frisbee, and board games.
Adam Helm
Adam Helm joined DK Arndt P.C. in 2012 when DK Arndt acquired TSB Bank’s tax practice in Titonka. Adam worked as a tax preparer for TSB since 2007 specializing in individual farm tax returns. In 2006, Adam graduated with B.A. in Finance from Waldorf College. Outside of tax season, Adam and his wife Trista farm in the Woden and Crystal Lake areas along with their children: Hailey, Reagyn and Toby.
Heather Ulrich
Heather has a degree in business administration and brings a variety of experience to the team. She lives in northern Iowa with her husband; between the two of them, they have four busy children. In her spare time, you can find her attending one of the kids’ sporting events. She also enjoys spending time with friends, fishing, boating, or simply relaxing at home.
Lucia Banchs
Lucia is a northern Iowa native and spent the early part of her career in banking and education before joining our team. Outside of the office, her favorite pastime is spending quality time with her fiancé, bonus son, and mini-Aussie, Isla. In her free time, she loves going for walks and enjoys swimming, boating, mini-golf, camping, and baking. You can also find her working in the garage, reading, driving around in her fiancé’s 1978 Camaro or at car shows.
Nicole Determann
Nicole joined the D.K Arndt, P.C. team as Executive Administrator in 2021. Her expertise covers a wide range of duties including scheduling, bookkeeping, payroll, expenses, and assisting with the management of the firm. In her spare time Nicole enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her little family includes her husband, Nicolas, and their three kids: MacKenzie, Brantley and Asher. As a family they like to be outdoors hiking, camping and sitting by the fire. When they aren’t spending time outside, they are enjoying movies or playing games. If Nicole isn’t watching her kids’ activities, you can find her with a good book or baking. Nicole also keeps busy with her church teaching Promiseland and most recently has become a board member of BrickStreet Theatre.
Rhonda Hopperstad
Rhonda joined the D.K. Arndt team in January 2023. She attended NIACC for applied science and enjoys working with people. She lives in Britt with her husband, Tom, and son, Jace. Rhonda spends her free time with family and friends, crafting, and being outdoors whether it’s camping, boating, golfing, or gardening. She also stays busy with Jace’s activities and watching him play sports.
Christine Mayo
Christine moved to Iowa in 1997 from her home state of Virginia. She started working for D.K. Arndt in December of 2023. She lives in Belmond with her husband Eric and daughter and their two dogs. In her spare time, she enjoys camping with her family.
Ravyn Reimann
After graduating a year early from North Iowa High School, Ravyn spent two years at North Iowa Area Community College in the Accounting program. She then spent over 10 years managing corporate retail businesses and over 6 years as an entrepreneur, running all aspects of her own business, with a heavy emphasis on marketing. She enjoys spending time with her children, family, and friends; she loves cooking, grilling and entertaining in her home. She also enjoys peaceful country living, farm animals, riding horses and riding motorcycles. She currently resides in northern Iowa.
